Increase In Prisoner Compaints In Ontario

Prison based complaints continue to top the complaints list in Ontario. There were 7,727 complaints about provincial prison conditions to the Ontario Ombudsman’s Office in 2003-2004. This is an increase of more than 6 percent over the 7,271 complaints made in 2002-2003.

Prisoner complaints accounts for about one third of the total complaints to the Ombudsman.

The most common concerns at provincial prisons are the adequacy of health care, medication, and staff conduct.
