Prison based complaints continue to top the complaints list in Ontario. There were 7,727 complaints about provincial prison conditions to the Ontario Ombudsman’s Office in 2003-2004. This is an increase of more than 6 percent over the 7,271 complaints made in 2002-2003.
Prisoner complaints accounts for about one third of the total complaints to the Ombudsman.The most common concerns at provincial prisons are the adequacy of health care, medication, and staff conduct.
