Manitoba Provincial Jails No Longer Allow Smoking

Stark Raven News
November, 2003.

Smoking is now banned in all Manitoba prisons. The new ban prohibits prisoners, staff, and visitors from smoking anywhere in adult prisons. This includes cells, communal areas, and outside on prison grounds.

Stop-smoking products, such as the patch and nicotine gum, are on sale in prison canteens. Aboriginal elders who work in prisons will still be allowed to burn tobacco during ceremonies. Most Federal prisons still allow smoking in some cells and designated areas.
